Oracle GoldenGate 12c on Windows 2008R2 (SQL Server testing)

In setting up some testing, I decided to install Oracle GoldenGate 12c (12.1.2) on a Windows 2008R2 server.  After doing a few installs on Linux with Oracle GoldenGate 12c, I figured the OUI would be quick and painless on Windows; boy was I misled.

On the windows platform, the installation is quite simple.  Just unzip the binaries into the directory where you want to run Oracle GoldenGate 12c from.  This is different from installing it on Linux; much like the old way of installing earlier releases of GoldenGate (When will the OUI be done for windows?).

Once installed (unzipped) in the directory where you would like to run GoldenGate from; then you can run GGSCI from the command prompt.  At this point there is an error that will be generated.  This error is related to not having the MSVCR100.ddl on the system.

Thought that we had all the prerequisites take care of?  Apparently, Oracle GoldenGate 12c is looking for this DLL file (have to love windows…maybe not).  How do we solve this problem?

In searching for an answer to this, I was able to identify that this DLL is a part of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistribution Package (x64) (download here).  After installing the package, the GGSCI command will run successfully and Oracle GoldenGate 12c can be usable on the Windows platform.

  • If this is a brand new Win Server 2008 environment with no other software installed, Oracle Instant Client is required. Otherwise, you will see another error of OCI.DLL missing error. Yes, I also spend more time in setting up SQL Server 2008 than on Oracle side on Linux.
